Installer failing with error -5009 Posted on 13 March 2009 under NetWare (Updated 30 September 2010)

During the past year a couple of customers have reported setup.exe quitting with error -5009 during startup. The problem is caused by an old InstallShield DLL on the workstation. Go to directory "C:\Program Files\Common Files\InstallShield\Professional\Runtime" and look for IsProBE.tlb. The faulty version is 108KB and dated 7/16/2004. Delete or rename this file. When setup.exe is run again, a new IsProBE.tlb of 116KB will appear, and the installation should proceed correctly.
